Can the Motorola XOOM beat out the Apple iPad? Who knows?
Both have their pros and cons peculiar to each. Both have loyal followers because of what each company stands for.
Of course, when you are looking into the XOOM tablet ipad trade in value but have an interest in the Apple iPad or vice versa, you will want to compare the differences and similarities between the two. Ideally, you would do this without any preconceived notions or leanings either way. You compare the two with an open mind so that you get a clear picture of the real differences.
Differences
The biggest difference that is the most crucial for some people is the price difference. The Motorola tablet sells for less than the Apple iPad. It also boasts a dual-core processor while the latter uses a single-core processor. Apple’s tablet is slightly smaller with a 9.7 inch screen. Motorola’s tablet has a 10.1 inch screen. With its larger screen, the XOOM also has a higher resolution, 1280 x 800 compared to Apple iPad’s 1024 x 768.
Motorola XOOM has several features that the Apple iPad does not. It has cameras on both the front and back of the unit. It can also record hi-def videos. It is one of the few tablets that support Flash. It has three different sensors: a barometer, an accelerometer, and a gyroscope.
Of course, the Motorola XOOM Android Tablet uses the Android 3.0 operating system while Apple iPad uses the iOS 4 operating system.
As regards GPS capability, the XOOM with Wi-Fi allows complete use of Google Maps while the iPad is limited in that capacity.
Similarities
Because each is targeting a different market, there are not too many similarities between the two. Both are tablets and that is pretty much it. Both do have the same 32 GB of storage and both have speakers. But beyond that, there isn’t much more, except that both have an accelerometer sensor.
Which Should You Choose?
You have to consider what you need from a tablet. Ask yourself questions such as, “Do I need to have access to a camera?” “Can I live without the ability to use Google Maps fully as a GPS system?” “How much resolution do I want?”
If you know a friend who has either, see if you can play with it briefly to get a feel of the operating system to see if you like it.
But, remember, when you compare the two different tablets, keep your mind and eye open so that you can observe the nuances of each.
